Drumroll, please: Reebok has officially entered the carbon-plated running shoe world with its upcoming launch of the Reebok SpeedShifter.

The Reebok SpeedShifter is a lightweight carbon-plated shoe designed for one thing: speed. This shoe is ready for anything, from fast intervals and tempo runs to longer efforts when you’re ready to pick up the pace.
It may just be a shoe that’s good for the front, middle, and even back of the pack. It’s definitely got our team’s attention.
We haven’t had a chance to put miles in it yet, so we can’t tell you exactly how it feels underfoot or how it compares to some of our other favorite carbon-plated shoes.
On paper at least, it checks a lot of boxes for a speed workout and race-day shoe. Letโs take a look at whatโs in store for Reebok’s first shoe with a full-length carbon plate.

What’s Going to Make the Reebok SpeedShifter Special
Reebok is using a dual-density setup with its HYERFLOAT foam to give runners a combination of cushioning, energy return, and stability.
Sandwiched into that foam is a full-length carbon plate. The icing on the cake is the FLOWZONE rocker through the forefoot, which helps create a more propulsive toe-off and a smoother transition as you start to pick up the pace.
One concern with speed or race-day shoes is how quickly the outsole can wear down, but Reebok added its non-slip grip outsole to improve durability. It’s a 3-piece rubber outsole designed to give you plenty of grip while also protecting the foam underneath from wearing down too quickly.
Basically, as we said above, Reebok is checking a lot of the boxes we look for in a fast shoe.

But specs only tell us so much.
The big question is how all of these pieces work together once you’re actually running.
We’re especially curious about how the HYERFLOAT foam feels and how noticeable the carbon plate is underfoot.
Will this be a race day shoe that works for a variety of runners, or one that really clicks with a more specific type of runner? We’re excited to find out.
Who is the Reebok SpeedShifter For?
- Wide Feet: It’s not coming in wider widths right now, so stay tuned for our review to see how it fits.
- Heavier Runners: Reebok says there’s enough cushioning and a durable outsole, so right now we have our fingers crossed for a solid pick.
- Long Runs: It’ll be ready for longer runs, with speed sprinkled in.
- Front of the Pack: This sounds like it’ll be perfect for speed workouts and maybe even race day.
Where Does Each Reebok Shoe Fit In Its Lineup?
Not sure where all the different models fit into their lineup? Hereโs a quick breakdown.
- Reebok FloatZig 2 – Affordable, firmer daily trainer with a roomy toebox and a natural rocker, best for shorter miles and half marathon training.
- Reebok FloatZig Double – Max-cushion, stable long-run and recovery shoe with a hidden rocker, though it runs small.
- Reebok FloatZig Tread – Low-cushion treadmill and gym shoe for short runs and lifting in the same workout.
We’ll have a lot more to say once we’ve had a chance to put some miles in the Reebok SpeedShifter.
