One of the best and worst parts of running is new gear. It’s exciting, but terrifying. Will it fit? Will it last? Will it chafe? Title Nine understands women and focuses entirely on workout gear that’s going to work without breaking the bank and across a lot of different body types.
I admit to getting excited any time there’s a chance to recognize another female owned brand in this space. There aren’t a lot of us and it takes some serious work to be seen, heard and recognized.
But of course that’s a lot easier when you make good things and make shopping easy!
Who Is Title Nine?
An easy answer is to simply send you to their website where you’ll find women’s apparel from hiking shorts to running sports bras. You’ll notice they have drop downs dedicated to women owned brands, but also carry some other brands they believe hold the same mission like Patagonia.
Founder Missy Park named the brand after the well known 1972 act that made it illegal for any public institution to limit participation in sports based on a person’s gender. It changed her life and she’s determined to help change the lives of other women.
Title Nine Sports Bras
Speaking of that, let’s start by talking about one of their most valuable features: the sports bra finder.
So many women are in the wrong size which is a problem because a too tight sports bra limits performance and one not supportive enough is exactly why a lot of girls quit sports.
Knowing that I am part of the itty bitty club, I put Coach Stacey to the test in using the finder and reporting back her results on the recommended options.
While I did test the Handful Sports bra, it’s always one that I find better for yoga, casual days etc. It might be because I just don’t care if I have any padding while I run. I look like what I look like!
Here’s what she tested:
- Close the Gap Sports Bra from Oiselle – Like many of us she found the pads annoying and ripped them out, but liked the overall fit. She did find that those with a larger bust might want to go with one of the higher support options.
- Shadowlite Sports Bra from Patagonia – Once she found the right adjustment of the straps it felt like an incredibly good fit with a lot of support.
Luckily for those of you more like Stacey not only do they have a finder but a system call the T9 barbell rating. This gives you a great visual on each option to see where it ranks in terms of support!
MVT Shorts – Pocket Perfection
Whether you want to think of it as most valuable or most versatile, it’s a winner thanks to the fit and the pockets. I can’t remember how I lived before running shorts with phone pockets.
Now I’ve realized the tighter fit seems to prevent chafing and well…pockets man, they’re awesome.
The MVT shorts come in a 6 and 7 inch length options. This is a big request from many of you who find shorter options like to crawl up, up and up. But for those of you who don’t, pssst checkout the 4″ Go Shorts which also have a phone pocket
When it comes to fit, I was happy with the small. The higher rise feels almost compressive and I wasn’t worried about them sliding down even with the heavy phone in the pocket.
And for all of you who keep telling me how much you love color, they do color!! A good reminder for me that not all shorts need to be black.
- XS to XL sizes available
- 3 colors (they do change these up seasonally)
- Available on Titlenine.com for $69
MVT Tank – Hold My Phone
Admittedly, I’m not one who runs in tight tops. BUT many of you are and you love the phone holders, so of course I had to take it out for a test drive.
I was really impressed with the overall fit and how nice it was to have that extra pocket, especially if you’ve gone with a looser short fit.
For me the little seems along the front were a little bothersome, but again that could be because I’m not used to running with anything tight on my core. Kind of like how you have to get used to running with a hydration pack and then it’s completely normal.
- Available in regular length and cropped
- Available in 3 colors
- XS to XL
- On Titlenine.com for $69
If you happen to lean towards the flowier tops like me, the entire Grace collection is really soft while still giving us that wicking we need on the run. Bonus points for the Stinkstopper in many of the styles. Maybe nothing worse than a new shirt that seems to smell after a couple runs!
The Grace Vital 2.0 hoodie is featured at the top!
Casual Comfort – Athletic Dresses and Rompers
Turns out I am a romper and a dress girl when it comes to travel….but casual and athletic still if you please. Luckily that’s exactly what Title Nine specializes in.
I wore this dress to walk all over the Galapagos and now have the Getaway jumpsuit as well for our summer adventures around Colorado (first up Crested Butte). Use them as a swim cover up, a post workout quick change to run errands or a cute weekend outfit.
This is the Speed Racer Tunic for $99, available in 8 colors.
Both of the pieces I have also contain UPF 50 protection which is a super added bonus. I like spending my days outside, not just in a quick drying breathable outfit, but feeling a little extra protected.
But I like that the jumpsuit comes in regular and petite. While I’m tall, many of my closest friends are…not as vertical and that means they can be comfy and cute too!
Crash Polartec Tights and Jacket – Winter Winner
I’ve told you before that these are my absolutely go to cold winter weather tights. They freaking rock and now there’s a jacket to go with them, which means I guess I have to stop complaining about the random Spring snow we’re getting.
- Polartec Tights – $99
- Polartec Bomber Jacket – $139
While there is also a Jacket with a hoodie, I actually like the one without for running. I find with thicker jackets I can’t actually get the hood to stay up, so it’s just me an a beanie instead!
These fleece lined tights are some of the warmest I’ve tested. Stretchy, breathable and once again really comfortable I have no issues with them staying up and the size zippered pocket works for my phone (are you seeing a trend).
Whether you’re out for a run, hike or other cold weather adventure I’d put this on your must list.
Since we’re a bit out of season they may have limited sizes available right now, but no worries this style isn’t going anywhere.
I found both to fit with my normal sizing. I’m 5’9″, 131Lbs with slim hips and a small works.
Swimwear
Great news, they have a similar tool to the bra finder for swimwear! I’m not sure I know anyone who loves swim suit shopping, but I do enjoy testing out my surf skills and taking big leaps without losing my top, so it’s key to find the right fit.
I snagged a super cute set prior to our Galapagos trip. Boy I had lofty expectations of time in the water before we go sick! Anyhow, one of the reasons I selected this style was it provided coverage that felt good to me and I knew it would stay in place.
Again, that’s what you’ll find here. One pieces, shorts, high necks, things that are designed to move with you and look good!
Whew that’s a list and I haven’t even scratched the surface of what you’ll find there!
From casual athletic day clothes to everything you need to hit the water or the trails, Title Nine really does have you covered.
