If you’ve logged thousands of miles like we have, you know the dilemma: traditional earbuds cut you off from traffic, trail runners, and other environmental cues that keep you safe. The Lucyd sunglasses tackle this safety concern head-on while streamlining; two essential pieces of gear merged into one.
We’ve tested countless solutions over the years, from bone conduction headphones to open-ear buds. But for those of us who refuse to run without eye protection (guilty!), bone conduction models always created an awkward clash at the temples, making long runs uncomfortable.
So are these $200+ audio sunglasses the answer for runners and cyclists who want to stay connected without compromising awareness? Let’s break down whether they deserve a spot in your rotation.
Who is it Good For?
- Want to streamline total gear
- Find bone conduction with hats, sunglasses, etc uncomfortable
- Real time translation
- Super long battery life
- Easily take calls or voice notes
Lucyd Overview
Lucyd has a variety of styles which all have different names, but are really just different partnerships. We are specifically testing the Reebok model. These are considered open-air audio, which is to say…not in your ears and not using bone conduction.
While they are plenty loud for you to hear, no one around you is going to be grimacing on the trails as you go by because they can hear your jams.
One thing I loved immediately is that you hear it say “powering on”, which means I’m not looking for any lights or guessing. I know they are now on and ready to roll.
For those who use Siri, you will push in on the volume toggle for 3 seconds and then tada time to work your magic. That being said, otherwise it’s a lot of figuring things out on your own. The app says to read the manual, but I haven’t been able to find a detailed manual.
For pairing and music listening, easy peasy. Nothing extra I needed from a manual. But I was curious about these other features like voice notes etc. Basically they seem to work by instructing Siri to do something, so all right that’s pretty easy too.
The buttons are super easy to use and super easy to find by touch while running.
David stole the last pair of glasses like this I received called the Bose Tempo and he has in fact used them mountain biking for the last 3 years with no issues. So I was excited to finally have a pair of my own again!

Prescription Lenses
Don’t worry, if you wear prescription glasses, you can still join in on the Lucyd party.
When you go to customize the lenses, simply upload your most recent prescription.ย Lucyd will accept prescriptions that are up to two years old.
Monitor Workouts
It says it does this, but so far I can’t figure out how. Or what it means. I don’t see anything in the app, I haven’t found a single how to anywhere. Not another reviewer, not aย video…nothing.
Sound Quality
It’s fine. It’s definitely no beats pro and there is no ability to adjust bass or any other levels to customize the sound output. I think for the majority of us who are sort of kind of listening while we run, but also aware of our surroundings it’s just fine.
Phone calls seemed to be ok as well, but picked up a little wind noise on my end.
Lucyd Fit
The biggest issue for me with headphones is often finding something that stays put and obviously these sunglasses resolve that issue! Beyond that they are light and comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
Both the ends of the arms and the nose piece are rubber, meaning additional grip when you’re sweaty. The nose piece is also adjustable to ensure you get a fit that’s right for you and stays put.
I had zero issues with them moving around and I do sweat, boy do I sweat. While the style isn’t going to be something that everyone loves it provides great coverage and clear vision. You can also opt for polarized lenses (which I highly recommend) or even prescription lenses.
What You Get
Considering the amount of technology packed into a pair of sunglasses, we’re surprised the price tag isn’t higher. Here’s what you will get with the Reebok Lucyd audio eyewear:
- Zipper case
- USB Charger
- Cleaning Cloth
- Quick start guide
- Safety and warranty information
Battery Life and Charging
The battery life of the Reebok Lucyd is pretty impressive. With a full charge, you’ll get up to 8 hours of usage, allowing you to take calls, listen to music, and follow navigation without missing a beat.
When the Lucyd needs to be recharged, plug in the USB cable and you’ll be good to go in just 2 hours. Ok, just two hours actually feels like a really long time for charging.ย But with a shorter charge you’ll still get enough life to head out for most runs.
Lucyd App
One of the coolest features of the LucyD is the translate ability.ย So you can be listening to someone in another language and have it translate the wording right away into your app.
Yes that means it’s listening through the sunglasses and translating in the app…kind of like the built in translation app on your iphone. SOOOO if it was repeating it back to you without an app that would be truly valuable. But the number of languages available is impressive.

Aside from that, the app is a nightmare. It’s basically a platform to buy other LucyD glasses and nothing that really helps you to utilize the glasses.
Obviously the biggest downside right now is my running at 6AM in the dark means I don’t need sunglasses. So these have been relegated to longer trail days or let’s be honest David is going to somehow steal them again.

Our Verdict
We love a combo tool to streamline our day and these absolutely do the job. They stay put, come in a variety of lenses and have a great battery life. The app could use a lot of work and the sound quality is mediocre.
