The Brooks Ghost has been a go-to shoe for runners for years, and in 2026, the lineup is getting a new addition: the Brooks Ghost Amp.
The Ghost Amp is exactly what is sounds like, the long loved Brooks Ghost amped up! They’ve created a version that allows you to pick up the pace more for everyone who has long loved their Ghost, but wants it to do just a little bit more.
The Ghost Amp won’t be available until Fall 2026, but we’re already excited to get it on our feet and put it through some testing.
Here’s what we know so far, thanks to our time at The Running Event (TRE) in San Antonio.

And for those wondering, yes there will be a Brooks Ghost 18, this is NOT replacing the original shoe. We are expecting the 18 to be released in May. It will have minimal updates as the focus is now on launching this new version of the shoe.

What To Expect From This All-New Shoe
Okay, so what’s going to make this stand out from the Ghost we already know and love? It comes down to the construction and the midsole foam.
To help it stand out from the classic Ghost, Brooks introduced a new blend of midsole foams.
The result is a slightly different ride, think lightweight cushioning with a little extra pop, making it the kind of shoe you’ll want to reach for on just about any run.
The Brooks Ghost Amp is designed to be a lightweight, snappy ride that everyday runners will want to grab for when they want a little more spring to their stride.
To make that happen, Brooks introduced an entirely new foam, DNA Hype, a PEBA blend. Think of it as the middle ground between a daily trainer and a super shoe, soft and cushioned, but with a noticeable bounce and energy return.
Instead of layering multiple foams and adding a plate, Brooks took a different approach here. The Ghost Amp skips the plate entirely and uses a SpringRamp, an engineered foam that molds into hype, loads at the bottom, and then springs you forward.
The result is a non-plated faster version of the Ghost that you can use to pick up the pace or as a daily trainer.
To create a faster, more responsive ride, Brooks removed the strobel from the Ghost Amp, allowing your foot to sit closer to the DNA Hype midsole. That closer connection is what gives the shoe its lighter, more snappy feel underfoot.
Typically, many running shoes use a strobel construction, where a thin layer of material is sewn to the upper before being attached to the outsole. This helps create flexibility and a smooth, sock-like step in feel.
With the Ghost Amp, Brooks decided they wanted to skip that layer entirely. By removing it, the Ghost Amp is said to feel smooth and responsive, with added spring in each stride.

You’re probably already wearing a pair of shoes without a strobel and didn’t even know it! A lot of carbon-plated shoes remove the strobel to help with weight and picking up the pace.
But did you notice the heel drop?
That’s right the Brooks which finally went from 12mm to 10mm is seeing a big drop down to 6mm with this version! That’s going to make it a win for many of us who prefer a mid drop running shoe, but may break the hearts of some long time Brooks Ghost fans.
We can’t wait to test how this shoe feels compared to other speedy shoes in the Brooks lineup.
Who is This For?
- Wide Feet: It’s going to be a similar fit to the Ghost, so we’re hoping wide options will be available.
- Heavier Runners: A durable shoe that’s going to provide a little more cushion and support.
- Long Runs: Great for longer runs with a workout thrown in.
- Front of the Pack: This will be a great option for some speedier workouts or just a daily trainer, but we’re not sure about race day.
Where Does this Fit in the Line Up?
It’s definitely not here to replace the Brooks Hyperion 3 as a super trainer. And it’s not part of the Glycerin line up which is going to include the new Brooks Glycerin Flex we’re testing.
So the best way to think of it is maybe like a Hoka Mach or a New Balance Rebel.
It’s a lightweight daily trainer that will handle a lot of miles, but allow you to pick up the pace. It’s not going to be max cushioned or bouncy, but extremely functional.
There you have it, your sneak peek at the all-new Ghost Amp coming in 2026.
Will this be the new shoe everyone falls in love with? If it’s anything like the Ghost, we surely think so.
