I interrupt this week’s Workouts and Goals to tell you about my new BFF. Yeah that’s right, Scott and I are tight after a run together this weekend.
Here is Scott prior to our run trying to put on a shoe, while kindly talking to someone else…but mostly thinking he was ready to go run with me.
Here we are post run, looking like pretty awesome BFF”s. Ok so I may not have been running next to him as he was AWESOMELY pacing a 12 minute miler.
Here I am stalking hanging out with him again as he did a Q&A session.
Ok so reallllly Christopher McDougall the amazing author of Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen(linked to Amazon for anyone who has not read this book, it is a MUST) came to Miami for The Naked Tour with Scott (if you’ve read the book you know he is in it). They did a 3 mile run with about 20 of us and Dr. Romanvo the inventor of the Pose Method talked to us prior to the run.
Dr. Romanov used me to provide a demo on the basics of the Pose method prior to the run and I SO WISH someone with me would have taken a picture. I was in running geek bliss…an amazing instructor talking to me… Chris and Scott feet away! Then we ran at noon in Miami…you can imagine it was hot and nasty…so yes, you may notice I am wearing two tops that was due to the sweat factor.
After that Chris gave a talk to about 100 folks and then Scott did a fantastic Q&A session. Talk about making you want to get out and RUN and LOVE IT and have GREAT FORM… and yes to write that book I feel bubbling inside me all about running. I was so jacked up after this. One of my favorite quotes from Scott was “I say running is 90% mental and the other 10% is MENTAL”. Amen says the Mental Marathon Training creator!!
Have you ever met a running idol? Do you totally geek out when you meet great runners?

That's so awesome! I would have been really pumped as well! That's very cool. I haven't met a running idol but I heard Kara speak at last years RnR Chicago and that was really cool. I enjoyed that.
Teamarcia
So cool you met them!!I met tons of running royalty in Boston last year…I think my fave was Rick and Dick Hoyt…or maybe Ryan and Sarah Hall.
HEATHER @ runfasterm
awesome! A few of us were going to drive up to Asheville NC to see them on Friday but life got in the way :/
Marlene
TOO AWESOME! I was hoping you would fill us in on the details after ever so casually mentioning it in your workouts & goals post. :)

Ok, totally jealous of you meeting those people!I heard Scott Jurek say that running is mental quote on a CNN interview awhile ago – it's quickly become one of my favourite running quotes of all time.

The closest i've come to running idols are just local ones. Most of them are really courteous and nice. I plan to venture out to some of the larger races around the country in the next few years.

I used to work for a high-end, technical running store in Philadelphia and had to drive Bill Rodgers around and hang out with him all day during some event expo thing. I think it was for the Philly Distance Run… a half-marathon. He was really, really nice.

This is the second blog I've read in the past week that involves the blogger meeting super awesome running peeps! And this all comes just a week after I found out that I'm gonna miss out on meeting Kara Goucher in Oregon by a month… we don't head out there on leave until June. :(
Chris and Amy
Shut up! That is awesome!

I would so be in runner geek heaven! I am jealous. I cannot get the pose method down…my hubs thinks I am a seriously slow learner and will be a heel striker for the rest of my (run) life.

OMG! I am jealous beyond all words!! I have never had the chance to meet any of my running idols (Scott Jurek, Kara Goucher, Ryan Hall, Deena Kastor). Previously on my list was Grete Waitz, and I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing.Scott Jurek spoke at the Rock N Roll Mardi Gras Marathon expo. However, I didn't find out about this until I got to the darn expo! Unfortunately, I picked up my packed the day BEFORE he was to speak. The expo (and marathon) were an hour away and I wasn't able to make it back the next day to see him speak. But not only did you get to SEE him, but you got to RUN with him too?? Holy cow. That's like winning the lottery! You can't see me right now, but I'm giving you my jealous face. :)

I met Scott last year in France when he broke the Men's 24 hour record. I initially went to crew for my friend Jill Perry, on the women's team, and ended up crewing for a couple of the guys too. I met some amazing ultrarunners. But the best part for me was that I also got to meet someone who I had idolized for a couple of years, Amy Palmiero-Winters. She was just as amazing and kind in person as I had imagined her to be.
