I think Coach Amanda wanted to make sure I was staying consistent with strength work, which is why a pair of NOBULL Outwork gym shoes recently arrived on my porch.
Marketed as NOBULL’s “OG strength shoe,” the NOBULL Outwork is built with one thing in mind: serious time under the bar.
It’s flat, stable, and intentionally minimal, with a 4mm drop and a stiff sole that keeps you close to the ground for heavy lifts.
The abrasion-resistant SuperFabric upper is designed to survive rope climbs, tough workouts, and whatever abuse you throw at it.
This isn’t a plush, do-it-all trainer though. It’s a durable, no-frills gym shoe for athletes who want to feel locked in and connected to the floor
Who is it Good For?
- Wide Feet: This one’s a bit tricky. On my low-volume foot, it actually felt a little cavernous. But based on wider-foot feedback, many find it runs snug. If you’re truly wide-footed, you’ll definitely want to try it on first.
- Heavier Runners: As long as you’re comfortable with minimal cushioning, this shoe offers the kind of firm, stable base that can handle serious load. Just don’t expect plush comfort.
- Long Runs: For me, this isn’t a shoe I’d reach for if running is on the agenda. It’s flat and firm. Great for lifting, not ideal for logging miles. That said, if the fit really works for you, short bursts or quick conditioning pieces are doable.
- Front of the Pack: This one’s for the gym crowd. Whether you’re lifting heavy, hitting a CrossFit WOD, or grinding through strength circuits, it’s built for that environment.
At the end of the day, the Outwork is best for athletes who prefer a minimalist, grounded training shoe and want something durable enough to live in their gym bag full-time. If you value stability under heavy squats and deadlifts and don’t need a lot of cushioning or arch support, this shoe makes a lot of sense.
It’s probably not the right pick if you’re planning to run regularly in your trainers, rely on structured arch support, or want something flashy and fashion-forward. This is a function-over-flair kind of shoe.
NOBULL Outwork Overview
I don’t always reach for the flashiest shoe in the gym, but I do appreciate a fun colorway.
The NOBULL Outwork? It keeps things simple. Clean lines, subtle logos, and no loud design elements. For some of you, that understated look is perfect. For others, it might feel a little too basic.
Where this shoe really stands out is performance. The abrasion-resistant SuperFabric upper is built to take a beating.
It’s seamless, supportive, and paired with a grippy carbon rubber outsole that gives you confidence whether you’re setting up for heavy deadlifts or moving through a fast-paced circuit.
Underfoot, the Outwork is flat, firm, and extremely stable. The 4mm drop and low-profile build keep you close to the ground, creating a locked-in, planted feel that really shines under heavy squats, deadlifts, and Olympic lifts.
There’s very little cushioning, which gives you that raw, connected-to-the-floor sensation many strength athletes prefer.
That minimal cushioning does mean it’s not intended for longer runs or high-impact cardio sessions. For runners who like to mix lifting into their weekly routine, this works great as a dedicated gym shoe.
But if you’re looking for something to comfortably transition from heavy lifts to a few miles on the treadmill, this likely isn’t it.
All NOBULL products come with a one-year warranty, which adds an extra layer of confidence to a shoe that’s already built to take a beating.
The NOBULL Outwork is a durable, minimalist strength shoe made for athletes who want stability first, cushion second, and a straightforward, tough-as-nails build that can handle serious work.

Quick Take
Pros
- Low stack to feel connected to the floor
- Stable feeling
- Ideal for heavy lifting
Cons
- Very rigid upper
- Not for versatility
- Fit not quite right for some
NOBULL Outwork Fit
Let’s start with sizing. Length-wise, the Outwork runs true to size. That part was easy.
Everything else? A bit more complicated for me.
The seamless SuperFabric upper is very rigid out of the box. It’s tough and structured, which is great for durability, but it takes a few workouts to even begin softening up. I gave it time, but even after several sessions, the shoe still felt stiff.
For me, this is one of those shoes that just doesn’t match my foot shape.
The midfoot felt too wide for my low-volume foot, and while the toe box has some width, it isn’t very tall. So there’s space side-to-side, but not a ton vertically. I had to really crank down the traditional laces to make it feel secure.
Even then, I experienced noticeable heel slippage. There is some heel padding, which is a nice touch, but I never felt fully locked in. That made me hesitant to lift heavy or get too explosive.
To be fair, this shoe isn’t supposed to be plush. There’s minimal padding by design. It’s firm, structured, and very grounded. But for my foot, that structure translated to an unforgiving fit.
If you have a more average or higher-volume foot, your experience could be very different. For me, fit was the biggest hurdle.
NOBULL Outwork Feel
Underfoot, the NOBULL Outwork is firm. Very firm.
The midsole is made from high-density Phylon (EVA) foam, and it’s clearly tuned for stability over comfort. Combined with the low-profile build and 4mm drop, your foot sits close to the ground with very little compression.
That flat, planted feel is exactly what you want when you’re loading up heavy squats, deadlifts, or working through Olympic lifts. You feel stable, balanced, and connected to the floor.
For moderate plyometrics or short conditioning pieces, it’s decently responsive. There’s enough cushion to take the edge off short bursts of jumping or cardio, but that’s about where it ends.
This is not a HIIT-focused shoe, and it’s definitely not built for running or all-day wear. The firmness that makes it great under a barbell makes it unforgiving once you start adding real impact or mileage.
In short, the feel is grounded, stable, and no-nonsense: ideal for lifting heavy, less ideal for anything that requires bounce or softness.
Similar Shoes to the NOBULL Outwork
We’ve tested a few gym shoes that feel similar, but different based on the brand fit.
- Flux Adapt Runner – More cushion and versatility.
- New Balance Minimus TR BOA v2 – Similarly minimalist. Provides enough support for shorter running intervals.
- Lululemon Chargefeel 3 – More versatile. Can transition from weights to sprints!
The NOBULL Outwork isn’t trying to be everything, and that’s exactly the point. It’s a stable, durable, no-nonsense strength shoe built for heavy lifts and hard gym sessions. If you’re a runner who takes strength training seriously (that means all of us, right?), having a dedicated lifting shoe like this can make a real difference in how confident and connected you feel in the gym.
We love the dedicated gym shoe, the grip and the durability. However the fit isn’t going to be right for everyone as we found with the stiff upper and low volume through the midfoot. It’s a great heavy lifting shoe for those with the right foot shape! Our Verdict
