In an ideal world, we would all eat in response to true hunger. But the truth is we get in to habits of eating because of time of day, response to stimulus and well…holidays!
It’s Halloween, so we eat candy we haven’t even thought about the rest of the year. It’s Thanksgiving so we have the extra piece of pie because everyone over does it right?
SOOO can a juice cleanse help you to get on track? Are all the touted benefits of a juice cleanse bunk? I’ll be honest, I think many of them are way overplayed and hyped up as just another fad diet.
Let’s take a look at the reported benefits and how true they really are:
- Break habits: Totally true! If you’ve been on a daily afternoon candy fix this is going to force you to examine those habits and figure out which one’s aren’t serving you.
- Detoxing: Your body already knows how to detox. It does it daily through your urine, bowel movements and sweat.
- Weight loss: There may be some loss of water as your body literally cleans out, but it won’t be lasting if you don’t change your eating.
- Increased energy: I think there is a lot of validity to this point because you are getting tons of nutrients, but also because it’s quickly absorbed sugar.
- Improved complexion, hair, nails: Long term juicing or smoothies can certainly help with increasing your daily total of fruits and veggies which will absolutely have these results. One short cleanse will not.
- Digestive intermission: In the past I might have poo poo’ed this {no pun intended}, but as I’ve worked to heal my stomach over the last year I actually see how this was great. Giving my digestive track a break from working all day every day with the foods I shovel in.
Placebo effect? This is where I think a lot of the benefits come in, I believe that our minds have tremendous power of our bodies and if we believe that juicing is making a difference then it will!
DEAR DIARY DAY 2
Don’t forget to checkout WHY I decided to try this and HOW to prepare for a juice cleanse.
Hunger: I did wake up in the middle of the night hungry, but went back to sleep and by morning was fine. That being said after I had my juice I just wanted food…a clear sign it was not really hunger, but I had 2 TBSP almond butter with some soaked oats….which totally lead to having steamed broccoli around lunch time and then part of a Larabar ALT after my dinner drink.
I kind of knew if I ate anything all bets might be off, but I did it anyways.
Exercise: Easy bike trainer and some walking
Feeling: Pretty good all day! The fog I had been feeling post marathon is totally gone.
Mood: Normal
Detox: No symptoms for me
Are you on the edge of your seat wondering how day 3 went?? What I’ll say about whether or not I’d do it again?? I know the suspense is unbearable.
