I really hate race reports. Mine. Yours. Famous people’s.
Two exceptions: People I’m coaching {woot go team} and really good friends who have just crushed a PR or done something they never thought they could.
Yet, I LOVE to babble endlessly about running and travel, which creates a bit of a conundrum on what to write after a race. Let’s go for the bullet point version with some photos and hopefully interesting facts!Since I haven’t done any speed work with LHR training and I’m thrilled we came in right about my average half marathon time. I am hoping this bodes well for a PR at the next race on March 1st.
- I ran 6 miles on Friday. I was not planning to run hard in the race.
- It was raining all day Friday, so it’s a good thing we stayed close to the race or we may have bailed.
- I am really bummed not to have photos of mile one because it was GORGEOUS. There was a layer of fog for the entire race, but at that point it was rolling in over the water as the sun came up…seriously breathe taking at any other time where you weren’t sprinting past.
This is a little of the view post race. - The race started 20 minutes late, which made David bonkers. I just thought that felt like being way back in a big race.
- They did a great job of closing streets, but occasionally let a car on the course which meant we got to suck in the exhaust fumes.
- They did an amazing job with having plenty of water stops and even handing out GU.
- They served Jimmy John’s and Food Should Taste Good chips at the finish…this was nice!
- Outdoor expo is good when it’s not raining
- Great LONG sleeve race shirt
- We had fun.
- I love my husband.
- I love that I can do things like this with him.
- I only like it when he runs beside me or slightly behind, not in front.
- Finally a race where I kicked it in the last 3 miles, instead of feeling wiped out.
- I loved seeing so many other running bloggers!!! I was a bad blogger though and didn’t get photos with everyone…DOHH.
Left: Meghan, Meg…Top: Meghann, Rebecca…Bottom: Kat. Missing photos: Meghan R and Beth. {seriously so many Meghan’s!}
Unfortunately due to the rain and fog, I don’t have any fantastic photos of my own to show you how cute and wonderful Safety Harbor is…which clearly means we will need to go back for another weekend. I hear there is a fun race coming up in Clearwater.
Do you like race reports?
Why? Why not?
Monday some of the important lessons I learned from this practice race and how I hope to put them to use this year!
