One of the unexpected side effects of running is looking more at your total health. Knowing that if you feel better you can run better, leads us down the path of investigating all kinds of ideas. That led us to being curious about BodyBio and their focus on the cell.
Some things like creatine for runners took a while to catch on, but now we all see the science. Meanwhile other things like electrolytes we know are helpful but might still fall short.
BodyBio is looking at ways to improve health starting at the cellular level. Which means improving total health, not just a quick fix to get through a single run with less pain or more energy.
BodyBio Overview
What does at the cellular level even mean? As they say it means taking a systemic approach to provide the building blocks for healthy cells and then support them ongoing.
You know we love when a company has science to back up their claims, so we went digging to see what they mean by this and then what’s available.
All products have research and quality standards that must be met, which is one of the foundations of this 25 year old company. That being said we couldn’t locate any linked studies or quality control reports. That’s absolutely not required for them to do, but we as the geek squad who research would like to see it.
What we did love on every product was a really clear callout of what’s included, what you can expect in taking it for weeks vs months and a number of other common questions.
Ok let’s checkout some of the supplements that are most going to appeal to runners and especially many of you falling in to that Masters running population.

BodyBio E-Lyte – Stop Cramping
While sugar and carbs are useful in electrolytes during a run, what about the rest of the day? It’s not uncommon for runners to be low and need more hydration, which is where this sugar free, no sweetener e-lyte comes in to play.
Many of you know we’re fans of using electrolytes throughout the day because water alone doesn’t help us to fully rehydrate.
“Let’s get microscopic—being hydrated all comes down to how well water and electrolytes can flow into and out of your cells. Without electrolytes, especially sodium and potassium, nothing gets in or out of your cells. These electrically charged minerals also stimulate muscle contraction and neuron connection. ”
ADDITIONALLY if you’ve dealt with night cramps (I have), this can work in about 20 minutes to help relieve them.
With continued use it should help to reduce cramping overall! This has been prescribed by many physicians with an impressive history.
It’s been around and used by athletes to every day people for hydration since 1989.

BodyBio Calm – Lower Cortisol Levels
Where are all my perimenopause ladies?? While this certainly isn’t just for you, a lot of the adaptogens here are commonly recommended and go right in while with trying to help tame that new anxiety or frustration we experience.
Since it contains Rhodiola (I’ve raved about this for years to provide energy ), you want to take it earlier in the day. It could be part of a daily routine or just on those days when stress is going to be higher due to meetings, travel, etc. Note it’s a much lower dose than things that use it to provide a big energy boost.
Phosphatidylserine is a new to me ingredient, but after a recent cortisol test, it got my attention.
I actually found a number of studies to support that this can help to reduce cortisol levels. I’ll need a few more months of taking it and testing again to let you know if it works!
I did notice a feeling of being just a bit more in the zone with it. It’s not an anti-depressant so there’s no massive altering of your mood, but it seemed to help me manage some stressful situations better.
BodyBio Balance Oil – Plant Based Omega’s
For our plant based runners, this is a great way to meet that balance of Omega 3’s and 6’s which we know are important for health. Instead of fish oil, this one contains flaxseed oil and safflower oil.
Once again, I’ve used blood testing throughout the years to monitor my overall health and especially while training. It showed up that I was frequently low in Omega 6 (which means low energy) AND Omega 3 (which means more inflammation). No thank you.
The name Balance Oil is important because you do actually need a specific ratio of these two fats for optimal health and most people are actually getting too much Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3 (4:1 ratio is ideal).
Omega 6’s can help to reduce joint pain, reduce inflammation, and even help with weight loss.
Omega 3’s improve our mental health, reduce heart disease risks and reduce inflammation.
It’s a powerful combo that they put the time in to research and find just the right blend.

Now does everyone need all the supplements all the time? No.
But many of us who are active need a little more support. Even when we try to eat healthy, it’s nearly impossible to get in all the nutrients we need to replace or to balance things like our Omega levels.
Which is why we call them supplements, they’re in addition to the already great things you’re doing for your body. And BodyBio is looking at what will help you long term to feel your best and age well.
