I love to talk running. No surprises there. However, I didn’t expect to be chatting running with the COO/President of Sony this week! Let’s back up a little bit though…
I LOVED this old school ad for the Betamax, it’s exactly what ads now say about new tech!
In running terms, CES is like a combo of the NYC, Boston, London, and Disney expos all housed under one roof and filled with media wanting to be the first to hit publish!
- Over 20,000 products
- Over 150,000 attendees
- 170 countries in attendance
Each year, I drool via Internet reports at the advances in technology. I was thrilled with the chance to not just see some of it, but attend some key press conferences and hear more about the vision for the future.
SONY CES
We received special invites for the Sony press conference announcing their new products before CES opened. Having no illusions of grandeur I didn’t even attempt to post things before the rest of the media, which is why I’m just now getting everything together!
- PLAY is their theme for the year. Wearable entertainment. Each innovation made to make life more fun.
- Tennis sensor – attaches to the racquet to show swing speed, ball speed and all other kinds of data to really help improve your play. Tools for other sports will surely follow as this is so different than going in to a studio and having your movements recorded, it allows for true play.
- The Core and SmartBand – Full details coming, but this is beyond a fitness tracker. It’s a life tracker.
- Waterproof smartphone – AWESOME
- 4K TV’s and extended content – Until seeing this live, I underestimated how it changes the game of TV watching. THIS TV also blew me away with integrated web cam {hey that’s me}, Twitter feed along the bottom and Skype! You can do it all from your TV.
- US forecast is to grow 2.4% driven by products that didn’t even exist years ago
- Wireless health – Some amazing things here from scanning skin to
- 3D printers
ONE-ON-ONE
All of this lead to a chat on Wednesday morning with Mike Fasulo the new President of Sony. Apparently he and his wife have really gotten in to running, but she recently had some major IT Band issues…Queen of ITB resolution right here!! It was fun to connect with him on a personal level…they call these guys “Tech Titans” in the press so they seem untouchable.
That’s my quick run down of hitting the CES floor, next up more details on all these new fitness trackers hitting the market!
Do you get excited by all of the new technology? Overwhelmed {raises hand}.
Anything of interest you’ve heard about so far??
