The Skechers SKX Aero Elite marks the first actual super shoe from the brand mostly known for making shoes dads might wear. But in 2026, it looks like dads around the world are ready to run, and run fast.

Skechers Aero Elite Overview

Skechers began a new chapter in its story in 2025 with the launch of its new performance running shoes, the Skechers Aero Series.

The company dropped, in somewhat rapid fashion, the Aero Burst, Aero Spark, and Aero Tempo in the summer of 2025, and began this year with the Aero Razor.

But they took their time with the tip of the spear in their arsenal.

Dubbed the Aero Elite, Skechers combined a super-light TPU outsole, an aliphatic TPU midsole, and a webbed carbon-infused nylon plate, taking inspiration from the industry while adding its own twist.

The result was surprising, to say the least.

Our Verdict

94%

Skechers is not only back on the performance running stage, but they could also potentially be a major player with the Aero Elite.

While I think this could be a big home run with a few tweaks, it is easily a triple…maybe even an inside-the-park home run as it is.

With a price tag $25 to $75 less than the competitors – Adidas Adios Pro EVO 3 notwithstanding – the Skechers SKX Aero Elite is a real bargain, and as the kids say, a real banger.

Who Is It Good For?

Who is the Skechers SKX Aero Elite a good fit for? Let’s break it down with some common categories:

  • Wide Feet: No, while the tapered forefoot is roomier than it looks, the midfoot is snug as a bug in a rug.
  • Heavier Runners: There is plenty of protective cushioning underfoot
  • Long Runs: Yes, it’s versatile enough that long easy miles aren’t harsh.
  • Front of the Pack: Very much so.

Skechers SKX Aero Elite Overview

I was lucky enough to be in attendance at the Southern California launch event for the Skechers Aero Elite. While I do have some experience with Skechers running shoes, having run in the Max Road 5 a few years ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Skechers Aero Elite ReviewThe Max Road was a really good long-run shoe, but it was heavy and not something to write home about.

The Aero Elite is a horse of a different color, indeed. If you removed the logo from the sides, it could blend into the crowd of the top super shoes on the market right now. You can clearly see some inspiration in the design language.

The ride itself is not as aggressive as it looks. While it does possess the ability to fly, easy paces are nice and comfortable.

At easier paces, you don’t get the sensation that the shoe is trying to stop you from running at your own pace. Quite the opposite, actually.

During the recovery portions of the workouts I ran in the shoes, I was surprised at how easy it was to downshift into that slower pace.

Skechers Aero Elite CushionIn most other plated super shoes, the plate stiffens the forefoot, making it harder to maintain form at slower paces.

In combination with the foam, that stiffening sends forces higher up the kinetic chain. In the past, I’ve noticed sore and tight hip flexors and calves from slower paces in super shoes. I didn’t really notice that here.

The Quantum Plate in the Aero Elite is a nylon plate infused with carbon fiber.

It is also made in a webbed design with a more rigid rim. That design is intended to keep the stiffness and stability while still allowing some flexibility.

I found my marathon pace to be very easy to hit and hold. I went out for 7 marathon pace miles one morning (without a warm-up) and never hit zone 3.

Skechers Aero Elite HeelDropping down to threshold pace was trickier. The energy return really jumps the faster you go, and at threshold paces I found I was easily 20 to 30 seconds faster in that first minute before settling in.

It took a few reps, but eventually I was able to find the sweet spot.

At mile to 3K paces was where I felt the best. With that little extra flexibility allowed by the plate, I enjoyed the fluidity at those faster paces.

Skechers really went all out with the design of the Aero Elite. The geometry screams speed, and the white with the blue and yellow accents is a clean look.

Quick Take

Pros

  • One of the lightest super shoes on the market
  • Outsole traction was great
  • Very nimble, corners well at speed

Cons

  • The TPU outsole does not do great on sand
  • Midsole cutouts create a suction cup sound at slower paces
  • No option for a runner’s knot

Skechers SKX Aero Elite Fit

Length: True to size
Width: Snug midfoot
Toe Box: Short and tapered
Arch: Neutral
Volume: Standard

The fit was true to size in my men’s 11. The upper is made from TPEE and nylon yarns. The majority of the upper is fairly rigid and lacks stretch.

Skechers Aero Elite LacesThe one area where this presented an issue was over the top of my midfoot. Right before toe-off at slower paces, I kept noticing a pressure point right in the area where bunions often develop.

Most of the stretch is in the tongue, which is fused to the upper, giving the shoe a sock-like fit.

The tongue is stretchy enough, but getting my feet into the shoe was a little rough at first. Once I figured it out, it became easier. A single strip of padding covers where the sawtooth laces come together at the last set of eyelets.

The laces are great, but they’re not doing much of the heavy lifting with lockdown; the upper takes care of that.

The midfoot fits like a glove, which did really help with lateral stability during cornering and tight turns. The forefoot was spacious, despite the tapered look. The height in the toe box borders on short, but it wasn’t a hindrance.

The heel counter collapses easily under pressure. But it held my heels in place. If you do often experience heel slippage, you might need to look elsewhere, as the Aero Elite lacks the extra eyelet for a runner’s knot.

Skechers SKX Aero Elite Feel

The midsole bounces like a rubber ball. I found the forefoot to be the epicenter of bounce. Combined with the forefoot rocker, you can really get some flight at toe-off.

Skechers Aero Elite PlateThe Skechers Aero Elite, like the Tyr Valkyrie Elite V2, delivers insane energy return due to its midsole’s softer foams, which I’ve come to appreciate.

However, one of my biggest gripes with the ride would have to be the “suction cup” sound when running at slower paces. The cutouts in the midsole come in contact with the road, and as you roll through your stride, there’s an audible popping sound.

On the other hand, breathability was great, and that wasn’t a surprise with the see-through upper. The cherry on top, and it’s ironic because it’s under your foot, is the ATPU sockliner.

Skechers Aero Elite UpperThe step-in feel, despite the race-ready fit, was very comfortable. Skechers landed it with the performance-to-comfort ratio of the Aero Elite.

All in all, the fit was surprising. In my experience, super shoes get the job done, but they’re not something I keep on my feet for much longer than their intended use. I spent a few hours post-run in the Skechers Aero Elite, and my feet still felt great.

The one area where I think the fit could improve is more stretch built into the midfoot area. While the tongue allows for flexibility, just a little more could go a long way.

Similar Shoes to Skechers SKX Aero Elite

We’ve tested a few race shoes that feel similar, but different based on the brand fit:

  • Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 – Light and fast, but also comfortable.
  • Asics Metaspeed Ray – Possibly the lightest and fastest super shoe out there
  • Mizuno Hyperwarp – Visually similar in looks and versatility

Tim was born and raised in Southern California, where he still resides with his fiancé. As a youngster he excelled at covering short distances quickly, while simultaneously unable to run a mile without stopping. Over the last four-plus years he’s learned, and continues to learn, the art of long distance running, especially heart rate based training. The first 13 miles of the half marathon are his favorite distance (he’s twice suffered pulled muscles sprinting through the last 0.1 miles). He runs because he wants to continue to go farther than his younger self would have ever believed possible.
