This weekend I talked a couple friends who were visiting from Kansas City and David in to doing an “Urban Dare” race. Of course this was all prior to knowing that I would barely be able to move due to a dislocated rib…and yet I set off anyways because it still sounded like fun and was a good way to show my friends the city!
The Urban Dare took place on South Beach and they provide you a list of 12 clues to locations which you must find to either take a picture or complete a task. The clues were SO HARD and ummm none of us brought our smartphones or a pen or sunblock, yeah pretty ill prepared, so we found another super friendly team and tagged along with them!
There was no running due to my injury, but in total we walked over 7 miles at probably a 4.0 mph cause well I couldn’t get up and go much faster. I did have to pass on the jump rope, but made the very dumb decision to hold David’s feet as he did the wheel barrel move (pictured are Keely and Jonathan)
Yes I made David dress like me, no we didn’t realize we would end up wearing the race shirts…but I parked a mile from the start line.
Have you ever done one of the Urban Dare or Urban Adventure races? We have seen them when visiting other places and always wanted to try it out…super fun, super sweaty and the questions are way more difficult than expected! I am not sure I could do it in a city I didn’t live in. I know there are at least 40 cities running the Urban Dare and you should watch for a Groupon that’s how I got mine super cheap.

I've heard of those but don't feel culturally-savvy enough to do well in them.

I've done it twice. It's a lot of fun, except that Jason is way faster and more competitive than me so we end up fighting lol But last year we had a blast, dressed up as a nun and priest, and just walked the whole thing. Having a smart phone really helps as does having a friend on a computer at home whom you can send a photo of the clues to quickly google them for you while you get to the first clue.

So much fun!!! We have a similar series here called CityChase that I do every year. I love that you never know where you'll end up or what crazy stunts you'll have to do!

Brent and I did the Urban Dare when it first came to Philly – a couple months before we got married – and had a blast! I was nursing an IT band injury and so, like you, did a combo run/walk/hobble through the city :)
