If you were rocking Skechers in the 90s like I was, you probably remember the glitter, the chunky soles, and all the bold designs. Fast forward to today, and Skechers has totally grown up; now they’ve got options for everything from running to pickleball to trail adventures. The Glide Step Tranquility is one that caught my eye.
We all have that one pair of slip-ons sitting by the door, ready for dog walks, errands, or to throw on after a long run.
The Skechers Glide Step Tranquility definitely makes a good first impression. It’s got a sporty vibe with the kind of cushioning that hints at all day comfort.
But does it actually deliver on the promise once you put it to the test?
Let’s dive in to see what you can expect from this shoe and if it’s worth clicking ‘add to cart’.
Who Is It Good For?
- Walking Workouts: Keep these for short, easy walks, no power walking efforts!
- Wide Feet: Perfect fit, with plenty of room.
- Standing All Day: Just the right amount of cushion underfoot.
- Daily Wear: A great casual shoe for travelling or running errands.
It’s crafted with 100% vegan materials and is super easy to clean!
Skechers Glide Step Overview
If you’re looking for a lightweight athleisure style shoe, say no more. The Skechers Glide Step Tranquility is the kind of shoe you’ll reach for when you’re heading out to run errands, breezing through TSA, or just taking the dog out for a walk.
This shoe from Skechers gets its name from the Glide-Step® geometric midsole.
The midsole resembles a design similar to what you’d see from a pair of On Cloud running shoes. The pod-like structure gives you a soft, cushioned feel underfoot, which is especially welcomed if you’re planning to wear these for a while.
It’s not quite the pillowy softness of the NB 1080 v13, but similar to the On Cloudflyer 5.No surprise, given the similar midsole build.Skechers Glide Step features an air-cooled memory foam insole. Since the temps are getting warmer here in Colorado, it was nice not to have super sweaty or hot feet.
After a few wears, I noticed the memory foam started to mold to my foot. It’s super comfy, but it does make me wonder a bit about long-term durability; only time will tell.
Sock or no sock, these still feel great either way.
And if they start to smell like, well, well-loved shoes, no stress. Just toss them in the wash, let them air dry, and voila, they’re like new again.
I know many runners are pros at sliding their shoes on without untying the laces. Well, that skill will come in handy here! The backs of the Skechers Glide Step are designed so that you can easily slip these on and off hands-free!
The harder heel collapses as you slide your foot into the shoe, and then pops back up so that your foot sits comfortably.
Super easy to slide on, and I only had to adjust the tongue once on the first wear.
Like other Skechers slip-ons, you’re not getting much arch support here. If you overpronate, it might be worth trying them on first to see how they feel walking around.

Skechers Glide Step Tranquility Fit
I did not love the fit of the Skechers Glide Step. I felt that I was going to roll my ankle at any point with how my foot slid side to side.
In comparison to the Skechers Go Walk 7, there’s very little structure to keep your foot in place with each step… and even just standing.
The fit, however, is wider, so if you’re looking for room in the midfoot and toebox, this will do perfectly.
I typically wear a women’s size 11, and I honestly could’ve gone down to a 10 for these. This may have been why I didn’t love the fit!
The top of the shoe is made from an engineered mono mesh upper, which was airy, but it felt too loosey goosey. There’s also the fixed stretch laces, meaning you’re not able to tighten the fit at all.
In my opinion, the laces are just there as a design feature, which is kinda annoying.
Don’t even try to touch the stretch laces because then they get even looser, I can vouch from personal experience.
There’s just a lot of extra space in the heel collar that rocks or other debris from walking outside would 100% find their way into the shoe.
The heel tab does feature an Exclusive Heel Pillow™, so I didn’t notice my foot slipping out the back at any point. There wasn’t any rubbing or hot spots, which can sometimes happen with a more plush heel collar.
Skechers Glide Step Tranquility Feel
If you put my feedback on the fit aside, the Skechers Glide Step does feel really nice underfoot.
The shoe is super lightweight, even a smidge lighter feeling than the Skechers Go Walk 7. But honestly, you wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference unless you put them both on at the same time.
The Heel Pillow™ sits comfortably against your foot and helps to prevent any slippage, especially when you have super sweaty feet!
A combination of the Skechers Air-Cooled Memory Foam® insole and Glide-Step® geometric midsole just the right amount of cushion so that you’re not sinking in or feeling every rock in the road.
The super flexible traction outsole was designed to last the wear and tear.
The raised bumps on each rubber piece did great when the sidewalks were slippery from the rain. I always get so nervous walking on the painted crosswalks, but there was no slip-n-sliding while wearing the Skechers Glide Step.
There is a chance for tiny rocks to get stuck between the outsole grooves, so maybe avoid wearing these on crushed gravel trails.
I think that if I went a size down in the Skechers Glide Step, these would be a home run because they’re super comfortable.
Keep an eye on Skechers because they’re coming out with some really fun shoes.

Our Verdict
While the cushioning feels nice, the overall fit of the Skechers Glidestep runs big and lacks support.
